Why the steering wheel hardens over time

It caught my attention that the steering wheel of my car started to harden over time.3 months ago, when I changed the rear tires, it became soft, great but now I realize that it has gotten pretty hard . What should I do to soften it ? the pugt 2011-07-08 17:48:20

This picture has been taken from 206 but it may change its place in your vehicle but the shape of the cover is the same. In our model, 307 1.6 gasoline manual ones are 2 liters, automatic ones are 4 liters.
