Most of us know the wheels as one of the exterior elements that increase the car's appeal. But the wheels contribute not only to the car's appearance, but also to its performance and handling.

The dizzying developments in automobile technology in a short time show itself in the design of wheels as well as the engine and bodywork. Especially the changes in the weight, dimensions, construction and design of the rim significantly increase the performance and handling of the cars. However, recent research shows that the rim is also effective in cooling the brake system. How should it be measured?

Elements such as the engine power, weight and size of the car play a big role in determining the rim dimensions. Therefore, the tire and wheel width must be compatible. Starting from 12 inches for small class cars, the rim diameter is up to 20 inches for large and high performance cars. The durability of the rim material is also an important factor. Especially, considering the road conditions in our country, the strength of the wheel becomes more important. Because a poor quality wheel can cause fatal accidents if it is not impact resistant. The wheels, which are divided into two groups as steel and light metal alloy, are developed with the experience gained from motorsports. Thus, it is provided to be more durable and long lasting. Produced in different weight and durability with the participation of aluminum, steel, titanium, magnesium and carbonfiber material, the wheels can be single or multi-piece.

Multi-piece more advantageous

An important advantage of a wheel consisting of two or three parts is that it gets healthier and repairable. When the rim of the rim is damaged by any impact, it is only possible to replace that part. However, when a one-piece rim is damaged, it is necessary to replace it with a new one. Another convenience of the multi-piece rim is that it can be used in all types of cars.

When using spacers of different sizes, the rim is positioned in or out relative to the body. Thus, the power of the vehicle to hold on the ground is increased by changing the track width. The section called the hub of the rim also affects the self width of the tires. The offset value, which is internationally denoted by the letters ET, refers to the distance of the rim outer edge (line O) from the hub.

The most important thing to consider when buying wheels is not to exceed the values determined by the manufacturers. Many wheels in Turkey both domestic and imported brands. Wheels must have a certificate of conformity to TSE standards.
