Is ecu formatted

Can anything update type be done on the engine brain of my 2004 model 206 xt hdi? I installed box tuning on my vehicle and it doesn't work, I had another brand before, it never happened again. I bought what I was wearing right now from a friend on this site and he was working on his vehicle. What could be the problem?
