ERECELİ CAMSHAFT What is a Grade Camshaft?

Graded Camshafts are performance parts that provide high power and torque in both street cars and racing cars, thanks to their regulated structures and adjusted ratings, different from standard camshafts.
How Does a Grade Camshaft Work?

The main factor that provides power out of the Grade Eccentric is that the valves open and close and remain open times. There are several concepts on this subject that should be known as Technical Knowledge:
LIFT: Lift is the value that shows how much camshaft presses the valves.
DURATION: It is the measurement of the degree when it comes out of the valve.
OVERLAP: It is the degree of time that the inlet and outlet valves are open at the same time. The opening number of the input camshaft is calculated by adding the closing number of the output camshaft.
POWER BAND: It is the cycle range in which the camshaft can efficiently deliver its power.
In order to better understand these concepts, you can take a look at our example ...
Piper Cams BP270 camshaft for Ford Escort 1.8 16V:
Power Band Duration Valve Lift Timing Full Lift 1800-6800 rpm Input 264/260 Output 395/367
10.03mm / 9.32mm Inlet 22/62
The exit says 60/20110. It provides a high level of power increase between 1800 and 6800 cycles. It is found by adding 2 numbers in the timing value and adding 180.mm. The numbers in terms of how much the valves are pressed. The degrees at which the valves start to urgent and close completely ... The degree that the camshaft leaves the valve open most ...
An animation showing the operation of Standard and Performance Camshafts

You can switch between standard and performance camshafts by clicking the square box in the Menu section at the bottom right of the animation.
Intake Opens: The point where the Suction Valve opens
Exhaust Opens: The point where the exhaust valve opens
Exhaust Closes: The point where the exhaust valve closes
Both Intake and Exhaust Valves are open: When both the intake and exhaust valves remain open

How Much Power Does the Grade Camshaft Give?

The camshafts produced for street cars are capable of generating power between 10 hp and 25 hp according to their rating and user choice, while the camshafts produced for racing cars can produce powers up to 80-100 hp.
For more detailed and specific information, you can continue by choosing the brand you are interested in from our Camshaft Manufacturers.

Points to consider: Although street-level grade eccentrics at the beginner level can be used completely smoothly, without requiring any other modifications in standard engines, there are some points to be considered especially in high-grade street eccentrics used in cars prepared for ambitious starting races.
As the high-eccentric motors can convert higher speeds, the distance between the valve and the piston closest to each other decreases considerably compared to the standard and low-grade camshafts as a result of the increasing Duration and Full Lift values due to the nature of the eccentric. In high-grade camshafts, valves may be damaged by incomplete and incorrect application, by contact of the valve with the piston. This event can occur especially at high revs and with an event called accumulation due to early shifting.
To prevent this danger, special valve springs are available from camshaft manufacturers. Since these springs are both lighter and stronger in terms of resistance, they completely eliminate the possible problems by ensuring that the valves sit in their seats at the required time. In high-grade eccentric applications, the valve spring change is an important consideration.
