The follow me feature is activated after the ignition is turned off. You can also adjust the setting from the original radio. There is no follow me status when you press the control while getting in the vehicle. because this feature serves to illuminate your way until you get out of the car and get home

If you are using the original radio, you can activate it by pressing the menu button and adjusting the burning time after turning off the contact from the user preferences.

As far as I know, follow me home is not automatically activated in every car landing. If you want to use this feature every time you want to make a selector, I do not think that the factory will put a setting that will be constantly active since the purpose of this feature is to illuminate the way to go home during the day.
