Driving in Rainy Weather

During overtaking, the wipers of the vehicle should be operated at their highest speed. The heating system and the rear window resistances must be in working condition, and visibility should be created with a cloth in cases such as vapors that would limit the field of vision.

Dipped beam headlights should be kept on at all times. On heavy rainy and muddy roads, the front, rear lights, stops, signals and brake lights should be wiped periodically.

After entering the puddles, the brake should be gently pressed briefly to dry the wet brake linings. The floor should be wiped with a cloth to prevent wetted shoes from slipping off the brake pedal in an emergency.

These movements should be especially avoided as it is easier to press the throttle in rainy weather, to apply the brakes hard, to suddenly turn the steering wheel and to pull the foot off the clutch more easily.

As dust and oils accumulated on the road surface will make the road even more slippery when the rain first falls, speed should be slowed and sudden movements should be avoided in these minutes. Aquaplaning (sliding on the water cushion) occurs when the water enters the puddles during torrential rain. In these cases, the steering must be held firmly and the foot must be pulled out of the gas to slow down, the brake must be pressed very slowly (if it is ABS, it must be pressed all the way down) and sudden movements must be avoided.

Especially if the outer depth of your tires is less than 3 mm, the risk of slipping can be reduced by following the tire tracks of the vehicle in front.
