CARBURETTOR ICE CREAM

When gasoline is sprayed into the air flowing in the carburetor, it will depend on evaporation. Since the gas will take the evaporation heat from the air where it evaporates, the temperature of the air will decrease. Since the cooled air will also cool the interior of the carburetor, it can cause them to become moist or even condense due to condensation.

In cold and damp weather, the water formed by the condensation of air humidity collects in and around the throttle, and cools and freezes. When the engine is idling with the throttle closed, icing will stop the engine by cutting off the air supply as it will close the gap between the butterfly and the carburetor throat. Although opening the throttle to restart the engine can break the ice, the engine cannot be stopped as the icing will continue as long as the carburetor is not warmed up.

The carburetor will have icing inside as well as outside. Since the occurrence of freezing in and around the throttle means that the temperature there falls below the freezing temperature of the water, the evaporation of the gasoline will be difficult. Typically, the icing event occurs when winter gasoline (gasoline with volatility above summer gasoline) is not used between -10 ° C and + 10 ° C.

Preventing or reducing icing in the carburetor; It is supplied by adding alcohol into the fuel. Some fuel companies add additives to prevent the engine from stalling in the fuel; these additives are also a measure against icing. Another icing seen on the carburetor; occurs in cool and humid weather when the car travels at a speed of 60-80 miles an hour. When the car moves continuously at this speed, the cool air passing around the carburetor cools it, causing an ice formation in the venturi. Since the formation of ice in this way will narrow the venturi hole; With the increase of venturi vacuum, the amount of gasoline participating in the mixture will increase, so the mixture will be enriched enough to cause loss of power and will increase the fuel consumption of the engine.
