There is no harm in bridging an amp which can be bridged, but there is a situation like this: How many ohms speakers can drive when the amp is operating normally, it can only last twice as loud as loudspeakers when bridged. (Some expensive amps can last the same under any condition, these are the exceptions) So an amp that normally takes 2 ohms lasts 4 ohms when bridged. If you connect a smaller load, the amplifier may burn, fuse blown, the amplifier may overheat, the electrical cables may burn, etc. Also, even if everything is done in accordance with the book, the amp will draw more current than the norm when it is bridged, and it will get warmer, but this is not a problem. As long as necessary conditions are met. (Wiring, ventilation, sufficient battery power, etc.) |
