About plastic zot

I checked the front assembly, the z rod is torn, I will replace it, but on my vehicle, the z rod is plastic. We've been using it like this for years, but plastic didn't give confidence, frankly, would it be a problem if I replace it with zrot, which is metal? Or should I continue with plastic.
