306 air intake pipe

I have a 1996 model 306 1.8 8 valve vehicle. My question is this: Normally there should be an air intake pipe going to the air filter and the air passing through the filter goes to the engine through another pipe. However, in my vehicle there is no pipe going to the air filter. Only the air filter mouth is open. Is this the original of these vehicles or should there normally be an air intake pipe? The vehicle stalls on the ramp. Does this have any effect?

It would be better if you added a photo, or I suggest you check photos of other vehicles online. Even if there is a problem with traction, it won't affect it much. There's another problem with your vehicle.
