106 gti gear sticks

I replaced my car's gear levers, but it stopped shifting into gear, especially 1st. I noticed an extension, I think it was welded, on one of the old levers I removed. What could be causing this? Is it a change in the transmission? Do I need to fiddle with the gear levers?

Unfortunately, even though I changed the sticks, there is a problem with the transitions. The car needs to be checked.
